Late last month, SaaS-based workforce management solutions provider SaaShr.com announced the launch of the Ancillary Product and Service Marketplace for service providers licensing SaaShr.com's technology and those providers' clients. SaaShr's new SaaS marketplace strives to be a destination for buyers of HR SaaS who know exactly what they want, and what they don't. It endeavors to enable buyers to mix and match, to their own needs, the elements and functionalities of cloud HR technologies. Tightly integrated products and services from a broad set of accredited third party providers will be available directly through SaaShr's workforce management platform.
Why is something like this surfacing? The answer is complicated.
Data from The HRO Today Innovation Gap Survey, first shared last month at HR Demo Show, reveals that users of HR technology are kind of fed up with vendors. Practitioners say HR technologies are overrun with shiny gadgets that do nothing to facilitate daily workflow, and yet, vendors find themselves to be trailblazing. And all this has managed to drive an apparent wedge between producers and buyers of these products.
Surely, many vendors refuse to acknowledge that, at this point, their customers already or ought to drive the buying process. Vendors must ready themselves for a big power shift in their marketplace: Some industry observers contend that HR technology is becoming more of a commodity, and that the dynamics of buying and selling it are therefore resembling those of a commodities marketplace.
What does all of that mean? It means buyers gain more and more control of the decision-making process. And whether or not HR technology is in fact becoming more and more of a commodity, increasingly, an informed population of buyers knows exactly what it wants in an HR technology. At least buyers think they know, and the scenario is no longer one in which a starry-eyed HR department hangs on the seller's every word, considering the vendor the authority and looking to the vendor as someone might look to an authority figure. Buyers of HR technology are growing to resemble buyers of smart phones and other mobile technology; they take it upon themselves to study the market offerings and then make an informed, straightforward purchase. SaaShr.com's new marketplace is one of the HR technology marketplace's first tangible reflections of the new reality.
